This American country music band hails from Columbus, Ohio. Its three members consist of Gary LeVox (lead vocals), Jay DeMarcus (bass guitar, keyboard, piano, vocals) and JoeDon Rooney (lead guitar, vocals). Discovered together at the Fiddle and Steel Guitar Bar in Nashville, Tennesee, LeVox and DeMarcus are second cousins and in 1997, DeMarcus convinced LeVox to pursue a career in music with him. DeMarcus joined Chely Wrights band where he met JoeDon Rooney. One night when DeMarcus and LeVox were playing at a nightclub, their guitarist couldn’t make it and they asked Rooney to sit in. The crowd enjoyed the trio immensely, and when they told the audience they had no name as a trio, one man in the crowd offered the name “Rascal Flatts” as he had once had a garage band by the same name. After Doug Howard listened to a three-song demo by the band, they were signed with Lyric Street Records in late 1999. Since then, Rascal Flatts has enjoyed great commercial success with their first album containing hit songs like “Prayin’ For Daylight” and “I’m Movin’ On” (awarded Song of the Year by the Academy of country music in 2002). From 2002-2007 the band released albums Melt, Feels Like Today, and Me and My Gang. Also in 2006, the band covered “Life is a Highway” for the Pixar film Cars, which was on the top 10 of the Hot 100. After releasing a Greatest Hits album along with some bonus Christmas tracks, they released their album Unstoppable in 2009. In 2010, they signed with Big Machine Records as Lyric Street closed in April 2010. Their newest album Nothing Like This was relased on November 16, 2010 and they now have eleven number one singles on the country music charts.
